Why I can't use the CD/DVD auto run feature?

What is the CD/DVD auto run feature?

Many types of CDs/DVDs contain software and games that designed to make the CD/DVDs to run automatically once you insert them into the CD/DVD drives, this happened because the Windows already has this feature within it's own configurations.

How can I control this feature?

The CD/DVD auto run feature is designed to be saved and controlled by the Windows registry files, so in case if you are facing some problems with this feature and all your CD/DVDs aren’t work in auto run mode any more for some reasons, you can edit the registry key which is controlling this feature.

Note: fooling around with the registry files is a fatal mistake, so don't try to change other registry key values or delete any key, simply stick to the below steps to succeed in the desired action.

How can I enable or disable this feature?

It’s so simple, by following the below steps:

Run

regedit command

Note: For Vista it's the same process only you need to type regedit on the search bar directly from the start menu.

vista regedit

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Cdrom

registry edit window

registry edit window

registry key value

Note: In case you don’t have problems but you want to disable this feature you will find the Value data by default set to (1) so change it to (0) and click OK
